Model Overview:

The 1969 Plymouth GTX is pure Muscle and was built to perform from the Factory Floor.

Sharing its body with the Road Runner, the GTX in standard form was the faster car. Plymouth slightly redesigned the GTX front and rear to differentiate the two models, with both keeping the same side on silhouette. Don’t be fooled, the GTX was a far higher specification model as its base model came with the fire breathing 440 Super Commando V8. One popular option for a mere $700 was the Air Grabber Hood with examples receiving this iconic option of a pulley-operated hood vent, operated via the opulent dashboard of the GTX. The Air Grabber Hood was standard on all 426 Hemi optioned Plymouth GTX models.

Plymouth’s GTX rockets from 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds thanks to the 375-hp four-barrel Super Commando 440 lurking beneath the bonnet. In fact, the GTX in this format produced an extremely rapid quarter mile time of 13.7 seconds. However, the best was yet to come from the 440 Super Commando with a ‘6 pack Carburettor’ option or by ticking the greatest option of the legendary 426 Hemi packing 425hp!

Vehicle:

This stunning example ticks all the boxes and is offered as it left the Plymouth Factory, with the only modification being the fitment of High Performance 426ci Hemi V8 Engine in place of its original Super Commando 440 V8. Showing less than 3,000 miles since full restoration in 2006 to high show standard, this car has been meticulously kept by it’s 2 owners with it’s current Owner bringing this car to Australia in late 2013.

Once landed in Australia, this stunning GTX began winning 1st place at Car Shows and was even invited to Display at the Motorclassica Car Concourse at the Melbourne Exhibition Building in 2018. Since then, this car has been rarely used by its owner due to work commitments & just last year was treated to a $25K + Full Engine Rebuild with only running in miles covered since.

Guaranteed to turn heads anywhere it goes, it features striking good looks and a ‘Gods of Thunder exhaust note’ from its Hemi 426!

Mechanical:

Powered by the legendary Mopar 426 Street Hemi, connected to its factory original A388 – 4 Speed manual & Dana 60 ‘Sure-Grip’ Limited Slip Differential. Majority of the mechanicals have less than 3,000 miles since full rebuild with the Engine & PS only just refreshed with a FULL REBUILD only last year in 2023, with full receipts for totaling over $25k+ alone.

Quick engine Specs: Mopar 426 Hemi / Eagle 4340 8 bolt crank / Diamond Forged Pistons / Roller Rockers / Mopar Performance Heads / Comp Cam & Springs / Manley Valves / MSD Ign. Distributor / Mopar Dual Plane Single Four Manifold / Barry Grant Mighty Demon DP 750 Carb / 10.1 Comp and much more….

The fantastic ‘Air Grabber Hood’ keeps the Hemi Engine force fed with air, when the driver pulls the RED ‘CARB AIR’ tab in front of the Shifter.

Turn the key and listen to the tune of an angry Hemi 426. One of the best sounds in the business.

Body:

The body of this car is beautifully straight with the underside presented in the same condition. Professionally rotisserie painted in it’s original Factory Code Green Metallic in 2006, this car has been garaged & very well cared for since. The ‘Pull Handle Operated’ Air Grabber Hood with HEMI badging and Matt black hood striping, only give a glimpse of what’s lurking beneath. Standard Trac Pak Steel Wheels are wrapped in period correct Red Stripe Radials. All grille, taillights, badging and trims in a condition as expected of a previous high quality restoration.

Interior:

The Interior stays true to the original luxury provided by the 1969 GTX model. Beautiful Cream White Vinyl seating and Door cars with Chrome and faux Wood trimming throughout all presented in Excellent condition. Dashboard Gauges are clear and well spread out with the all important RED CARB AIR Tab in close reach next to the factory Dogleg Hurst Shifter. Clean as a whistle and a beautiful contrasting color scheme.

Summary:

A true pedigree American Muscle Car in outstanding condition. A very sought-after 1969 Plymouth GTX model with 440 Super Commando or the 426 Hemi, as both versions laid down 13 Second 1/4 mile times from the Dealership floor.
