1978 HOLDEN HZ GTS

Model Overview:

The Holden HZ GTS, the final and finest of the Kingswood-based model line, was an iconic Australian muscle car known for its striking design and impressive performance for its time. It featured a distinctive four-headlight grille, front and rear air dams, and radial-tuned suspension, making it stand out in both looks and handling.

Equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, full sports dashboard instrumentation, a refined interior and performance wheels with radial tyres, the HZ GTS offered a balance of style and substance. Initially available with 2 engine options, the L31 5.0-litre V8 became standard by June 1978, further enhancing its appeal to performance enthusiasts.

Production ended in December 1978, with around 1,438 units produced, marking the “end of an era” for the Kingswood-based 4 Door GTS series.

Auction Vehicle:

A rare find.

Original 2 Owner Holden HZ GTS – L31 5.0 V8 / Turbo 400 auto / Airconditioning / Power Steering / Dealer Vinyl Roof / Dealer Hand painted stripes, all original Holden Factory Books and leaflets & a Genuine very low 80,625 Klm’s only.

Purchased by the Vendor in 1998 from his childhoods best friends dad & neighbor, this cars history is known from its 1978 Purchase to today.

Mechanical:

Featuring all factory matching numbers mechanicals with its original QT Block L31 5.0 V8 in absolute standard condition being started and run every 3 months of the Vendors ownership since 1998 to keep in perfect running order.

Serviceable items such as exhaust and brake parts are the only items changed from new. The radiator was just flushed together with the Air Conditioning compressor changed, to ensure all mechanical items are in excellent working order for Auction.

This car was driven from Country SE Victoria into the Chicane Showroom.

Body:

Absolutely standard, without accident and straight as an arrow as per factory. Outside Paint has aged with time with no touch ups. Surface rust is present in some small exposed areas, without it going any much deeper or showing ‘bubbling’ at all.

All original side & rear Glass is unmarked or scratched with original windscreen showing marks any car with 80k’s on the clock should. All inner door jams, bonnet and boot paint is unblemished and in amazing order.

Interior:

Time capsule. Presented in truly remarkable original condition. Dashboard gauges and switches in showroom condition. All Seating, carpets and headlining in close to unmarked new condition. The dashboard clock even ticks away without a care. Must be seen to be fully appreciated.

History & Maintenance:

A verified 2 Owner Vehicle from new, with the current long term Vendor riding and admiring in this exact car from when he was a child, with the first owner being a neighbor / Family friend. Always cherished and cared for by both Owners.

Summary:

True Original collector cars are hard to come by with known low ownership, low Klm’s driven, complete matching numbers and factory supplied manuals / books. This example is an rare opportunity for the astute collector or Holden historian to own.

Inspection is welcomed at the Chicane Auctions Showroom by Appointment.

Buyers Premium & Payment:

BP 6.5% of Winning Bid Amount. (GST Inc.) Debited from Auction Winners Bank Card as deposit.
Example: $50,000 Winning Bid + Buyers Premium $3,250 (6.5%) = $53,250 AUD Total Amount.

The Winning Bidder will be sent an Invoice to be paid within 5 Days. Payment by EFT Bank Transfer.

All Vehicles must be collected within 7 days of the Auction Close.

How to Bid:

• Register & become a Verified Bidder.
• Bids must be at least $250 higher than the current bid. You may enter a higher bid at any time
• When placing a Bid, do not use a ‘comma mark’. ( Example $10000 equals $10,000 )
• If Reserve Price is Met, a yellow banner will say “Reserve Met” on the Lot Auction Page.
• Auction will extend by another 2 Minutes, if a bid is placed within 2 minutes of Auction End.

*If the Reserve Price is not met, only the highest bidder has first right to negotiate any purchase.

Transport:

Fully Enclosed Transport is easily arranged for interstate buyers, throughout Australia. Buyer is responsible for cost.

Vehicle information is provided to us by the Vendor. Each Vehicle is to be personally verified by the Bidder, for its Condition & Authenticity. The Chicane team review all vehicles at our Showroom for internal checks & auction suitability, not of a qualified inspector, mechanic or other professional.  Due to age, Classic Cars can have many unseen flaws and a mechanical check / service is recommended before driving. Odometer readings can be incorrect & are unverified. We Highly advise to inspect any Vehicle before bidding, as Items are sold as is, without cooling off period or warranty under Victorian LMCT Auction Guidelines. All Vehicles are sold unregistered unless otherwise stated. All cars have a clear PPSR and are sold without finance owing or on the Written Off Vehicle Register.

GST Note: GST will not be added to, or included in, the final bid price of this item. GST is included in the buyers premium.
