1966 FORD GT40 by KVA

MODEL OVERVIEW:
The 1966 Ford GT40 Mk I is one of the most evocative supercars of its era. Ford's Le Mans contender was built in street trim in small numbers to satisfy homologation rules. Constructed by Ford Advanced Vehicles in Slough UK, the road going Mk I featured the same pressed-steel monocoque chassis and Fiberglass bodies with the mid-mounted 289 cubic-inch V8 as the race cars, but with modest concessions to comfort such as carpeting, door pockets, and reversing lights.
With a top speed well over 160 mph, it was among the fastest road cars in the world, yet its dramatic proportions and race-bred engineering made it unlike anything else on public roads in the 1960s. Because only a handful of genuine Mk I road cars were ever produced, recreations by respected firms such as KVA have become sought-after in their own right.
AUCTION CAR:
This 1966 Ford GT40 Mk1 Recreation is a KVA Type-C example, believed to have been built in the late 1990s, and presents today as a structurally strong and highly engaging GT40 recreation. Powered by a robust Ford 302 Windsor V8 on quad 48 IDF Webers, it delivers the unmistakable induction sound, sharp throttle response and authentic rawness that enthusiasts expect from a GT40 build, all wrapped in bodywork renowned for its dimensional accuracy. The KVA GT40 was developed by Ken Vincent Attwell using original GT40 body bucks, patterns and moulds obtained during the 1970s. This direct connection to original Ford tooling gave KVA its reputation for faithfully reproducing the correct proportions and surfaces of the legendary Mk1, influencing many later high-end replicas.
DRIVE - LINE:
Power comes from a strong Ford 302 Windsor V8 equipped with quad Weber 48 IDF carburettors, delivering sharp throttle response, a deep induction note, snarling exhaust and the unmistakable GT40 character. Its performance is paired with the highly regarded Audi 01E six-speed transaxle, renowned for its durability and capacity to handle well beyond 500 horsepower in demanding applications.
The chassis is the desirable KVA Type C chassis, the latest evolution of the well known KVA platform, featuring a strengthened fully boxed frame engineered specifically for high-power V8 use and spirited driving. The chassis integrates a combination of production Ford Sierra suspension components, Ford Escort rack & pinion steering with KVA-fabricated items, supported by Eibach adjustable coil-over suspension and Ford four-wheel disc brakes to provide handling and stopping performance.
EXTERIOR:
The car wears the highly regarded KVA GT40 bodywork, appreciated worldwide for its accuracy to original Mk1 GT40 dimensions and panel shapes. KVA’s body moulds were derived from genuine Ford GT40 panels, giving this recreation a level of authenticity rarely matched in later kits. Sitting on Performance Challenger wheels, this cars stance and proportions all reflect a good interpretation of the original 1966 GT40.
