1969 FORD FALCON XT GT - SOLD $97,100 Inc. BP

MODEL OVERVIEW:

The Ford Falcon XT GT, released in 1968, marked the second model of Ford Australia’s groundbreaking Falcon GT performance sedan. Building on the success of the XR GT, the XT introduced several refinements, most notably a larger and more powerful 302-cubic inch V8 engine. Producing 230 bhp and offering more torque than the outgoing 289, the new engine improved top-end performance while maintaining everyday drivability. Suspension revisions, wider six-inch rims, front driving lights, and a 3.00:1 limited-slip differential enhanced road handling and high-speed touring capability. For the first time, Ford offered buyers the choice of a three-speed automatic transmission in addition to the standard four-speed manual, reflecting a subtle shift toward a more executive GT market.

By the end of production in mid-1969, just 1,480 XT GTs had been built—1,163 with manual gearboxes and 317 with automatics. Today, the XT GT is a sought-after piece of Australian motoring history, prized by collectors for its classic subdued 1960's styling, easier driving and motorsport heritage.

AUCTION CAR:

Presented here is a beautifully restored 1969 Ford Falcon XT GT, finished in bright Polar White over Black GT vinyl interior. Powered by a strong 302 Windsor V8 in great condition. Backing the engine is the factory optioned C4 automatic transmission, which sends power to the rear wheels via its factory limited-slip differential. The car is accompanied by a Ford Letter of Authenticity, as well as documents showing it was runner up for Best Restored XT GT at the 2015 Falcon GT Nationals, affirming quality and some provenance. This example was held by a long-term owner prior to its acquisition by the current vendor and has been maintained in excellent condition since.

DRIVE-LINE:

The car is powered by a period-correct 302ci Windsor V8, featuring extractors feeding into the correct GT exhaust system, giving it a purposeful note while maintaining a factory-style appearance. The Ford C4 automatic transmission provides smooth and reliable shifting, making it a relaxed GT cruiser while still offering strong V8 performance. The original factory limited-slip differential remains in place. During its restoration, the suspension system and most mechanical components were fully renewed, including bushings, dampers, and steering components. The result is a very solid car with no known mechanical faults—ready to be enjoyed immediately.

EXTERIOR:

This XT GT presents exceptionally clean, having undergone a full body and paint restoration approximately 15 years ago. The body is gun-barrel straight, with uniform panel gaps and crisp lines throughout. The Polar White paintwork is deep and glossy, presenting in show ready condition. Chrome grille, bumpers, and exterior trim is in excellent condition.

INTERIOR:

Inside, the car presents in extremely tidy and factory-correct condition. The black vinyl GT seat trims and headlining have been professionally renewed, while the original door cards have been preserved, offering an authentic presentation. The dash fascia, instruments, and GT steering wheel show minimal wear, with the odometer and gauges clean and easy to read. The cabin gives a solid feel, thanks to the fresh seals and door rubbers all replaced during restoration. .

SUMMARY:

This 1969 Ford Falcon XT GT is a highly presentable example of one of Ford Australia’s most significant early performance models. Restored to a high standard approximately 15 years ago and still presenting beautifully today. Accompanied by a Ford Letter of Authenticity, GT Nationals provenance and supported by a known long-term ownership history, this example is... a fine example.
