1972 VALIANT CHARGER VH E37 / RT TRIBUTE

MODEL OVERVIEW:

The Valiant Charger VH, introduced in 1971 by Chrysler Australia, was a bold and uniquely Australian take on the performance coupe, blending compact dimensions with muscular styling and a wide-ranging mechanical portfolio that appealed to both everyday drivers and hardcore enthusiasts. Based on the VH Valiant platform but shortened and sharpened visually, the Charger lineup spanned from modest six-cylinder road cars through to some of the most formidable local performance machines of the era. At the top sat the legendary E-series performance variants, beginning with the E37 Six Pack, powered by the 265ci Hemi Six with triple Weber carburettors, followed by the more aggressive E38, culminating in the E49 and E55. Alongside and combined with these were the Charger R/T models, offering sporty suspension, distinctive styling and strong performance without the full E-series specification, while trim levels such as XL, 770 and SE defined varying levels of interior finish and equipment across the range.

1972 VALIANT CHARGER VH - E37 / RT TRIBUTE

This 1972 Valiant Charger VH has been built as an E37 R/T tribute, featuring a genuine E37 Six Pack 265ci engine and drivetrain sourced from a damaged original E37 770 donor vehicle.

The body presents dead straight, rust-free and has undergone a recent glass-out respray in Hemi Orange, finished with an R/T scoop, blackouts and full details, giving the car strong presence.

Mechanically, this car features an original E37 265ci Six Pack engine, retaining its factory triple Weber carburettors with correct rocker cover, throttle linkages, and both flat and domed air cleaner assemblies. The engine has been fully balanced and sympathetically upgraded internally with fully floating rods, a large harmonic balancer, roller rockers, an electronic distributor (original distributor included), electric fuel pump, and improved cooling via a thermostatically controlled electric fan.

A correct three-speed manual gearbox, complete with Bathurst markings, is paired with an OE Six Pack twin-plate clutch and drives through a reconditioned E37 3.24:1 E37 limited-slip differential.

Suspension and braking remain true to E37 specification, featuring OE E37 torsion bars and sway bar, reconditioned Girlock front disc brakes, and a reconditioned OE master cylinder. Original Finned rear drums are supplied with the car.

This Charger rides on W35 wheels and retains period-correct lighting, including sealed-beam headlights and auxiliary driving lights. Additional details include genuine “Big Tank” twin fuel fillers feeding a non-original fuel tank, along with twin exhausts and extractors fitted in E37 style.

Inside, the cabin is trimmed in 770 specification, featuring the optional sports tacho rally dashboard. The dash pad shows cracking, and the headlining and select minor interior trim items require attention to fully match the exterior presentation.
