1978 HOLDEN HZ GTS

MODEL OVERVIEW:

The Holden HZ GTS was introduced in 1977, and was the spiritual successor to the Monaro GTS, blending performance with luxury in a uniquely Australian formula. Externally, the HZ GTS featured bold styling enhancements including a distinctive four-headlight front end, integrated body-coloured bumpers, GTS-specific grille and badging, blacked-out trim with front and rear spoilers, giving it a purposeful stance. Underneath, the big news was the introduction of Radial Tuned Suspension (RTS) and four wheel Disc Brakes transforming the ride and handling characteristics, making it by far the best-driving Holden of its size to date. Power came from Holden’s proven 4.2 or 5.0-litre V8 (L31), paired with either a heavy-duty M21 four-speed manual or a TH400 automatic, sending power to a Salisbury LSD. The interior offered a sports layout with high-backed contour bucket seats and full instrumentation. The HZ GTS holds a unique place in Holden history as the last of the big, V8-powered sports sedans of the 1970's.

1977 HOLDEN HZ GTS – SURVIVOR – 308 V8 – 4 SPEED MANUAL

* MATCHING NUMBERS – SURVIVOR CAR
*ORIGINAL PAINT – BROADCAST SHEET INCLUDED
*LOG BOOKS FROM NEW – LOW KILOMETRES

A rare opportunity to secure a genuine survivor-grade Holden HZ GTS, representing the final chapter of Holden’s traditional V8 performance sedans.

Powered by its original matching-numbers L31 5.0-litre (308ci) V8, and paired with the desirable M21 4-speed manual transmission, this car delivers the raw, analogue driving experience that defines Australian muscle of the era.

Showing an indicated 93,604 kilometres from new, this example stands apart for its exceptional originality, retaining its original paintwork, presenting with honest patina and character consistent with a true survivor.

Inside, the car retains its factory GTS interior, including correct dash, bucket seats and console, presenting in highly preserved condition throughout.

What truly elevates this car is its documentation. It is accompanied by its original Holden log books, owner’s manual and factory production broadcast sheet — a highly significant piece of factory history confirming the car’s original build specification.

Cars like this are becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly with matching numbers, original presentation and complete documentation.

A genuine, highly original HZ GTS survivor — a reference-grade example of Australian muscle.
