1985 HOLDEN COMMODORE VK V8 'INTERCEPTOR'
SOLD $46,000 + BP
MODEL OVERVIEW:
AUCTION CAR:
This 1985 Holden Commodore VK SL V8 is a genuine Victorian Police “TOG” Interceptor — a purpose-built highway pursuit car developed during the peak of Holden’s V8 policing era. Finished in the unmistakable factory-only Victorian Police colour 1D008D Absinthe Yellow, this example represents one of the most iconic and evocative Australian police performance vehicles of the 1980s. Retaining its original owner’s manual and an extensive array of police-specific equipment, the car has since undergone a comprehensive body restoration and today presents as a historically significant VK Police pursuit car.
DRIVE - LINE:
Power comes from Holden’s LV2 4.9-litre (304ci) V8, featuring B-cast big-valve cylinder heads, a high-compression bottom end, and the correct 92015955 ported intake manifold. The original carburettor has been professionally rebuilt and is supported by a factory style cold-air intake and a rebuilt Hitachi high-output alternator as fitted to these police vehicles.
Backing the V8 is the correct M21 four-speed manual gearbox, recently rebuilt and paired with a new clutch. Power is delivered through a factory GU4 3.08:1 limited-slip differential, providing the long-legged cruising and sustained high-speed capability required of highway patrol duty. Four-wheel disc brakes, extractors, and a Brock-spec 2.5-inch exhaust system complete the package.
EXTERIOR:
The body has been fully restored and refinished in its original 1D008D Absinthe Yellow — a colour exclusive to Victorian Police vehicles and never offered to the public. Panel fit, paint finish, and overall presentation reflect a professional restoration, with trim and exterior hardware presented in very good condition. Of particular interest, the roof drip rails still bear visible marks from the original police lights and siren fitment, providing a tangible link to the car’s service history.
INTERIOR:
Inside, the car presents very well and retains a suite of factory police-specific items seldom seen today. These include the police-spec courtesy lamp with dual map lights, calibrated police speedometer, manual steering rack, high-rise centre console, front door map pockets, and front door ashtrays. The cabin layout reflects the functional, no-nonsense approach of Victorian Police pursuit vehicles, prioritising durability, visibility, and long-distance patrol capability over civilian luxury.
SUMMARY:
A true Australian motoring icon, this 1985 Holden Commodore VK SL V8 Interceptor represents a rare opportunity to acquire an authentic Victorian Police pursuit car, body restored and finished in its correct factory-only Absinthe Yellow. With its LV2 V8, four-speed manual transmission, police-specific equipment, and original owner’s manual, this VK stands as one of the most understated Australian police performance cars of the era — equally suited to a collection, display or weekend driving enjoyment.
