2000 RCM - AC COBRA - SOLD $ PRIVACY REQUEST

MODEL OVERVIEW:

The AC Cobra, born from a collaboration between British manufacturer AC Cars and American racer Carroll Shelby in the early 1960s, is one of the most iconic sports cars ever built — combining a lightweight AC Ace chassis with brutish American V8 power. Originally produced in limited numbers from 1962 to 1967, genuine Cobras are now among the most valuable collector cars in the world, famed for their raw performance, muscular curves, and motorsport pedigree. Their legend has also inspired an entire industry of replicas and “continuation” cars, ranging from exacting recreations built to original specifications, using aluminium bodies and period-correct components, to more accessible fibreglass-bodied versions often fitted with modern drivetrains and safety features. While true AC Cobras command seven-figure prices and are closely documented by registries, high-quality replicas allow enthusiasts to experience the car’s visceral driving character and timeless design without the astronomical cost.

AUCTION CAR:

This 2000 RCM AC Cobra is a professionally built, high-performance replica crafted by renowned Cobra specialist Laurie Bongailas, featuring a 2-inch longer chassis to comfortably accommodate drivers up to 6’4”. Registered in Victoria with full road compliance, the car blends traditional 1960s Cobra styling with modern engineering and premium finishes. Presented in outstanding overall condition, it features a stunning body, beautifully detailed engine bay, and exceptional paintwork. The build incorporates carefully selected components for both performance and drivability, making it an impressive road weapon while retaining the iconic character of the original AC Cobra.

DRIVE-LINE:

Under the bonnet sits a Ford 351 Windsor V8 stroked to 377ci, fitted with a Chev steel crank, four-bolt bottom end, TFS alloy cylinder heads, a roller cam and braided lines throughout. A Vortex T Trim supercharger, managed by a Motec fuel injection system, delivers formidable forced-induction performance. Exhaust is handled by active side pipes and a full stainless steel underbody system. Power is transferred via an 11-inch Centre Force clutch to a Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox, feeding into Jaguar-sourced independent front and rear running gear, including differential and brakes. This robust driveline setup is complemented by Halibrand replica wheels (8x15” front, 10x15” rear) shod in new Mickey Thompson tyres (235/15 front, 295/15 rear) for exceptional grip.

EXTERIOR:

Finished in metallic blue with white pearl racing stripes, the Cobra exudes timeless racing heritage. The paintwork presents to a high standard, highlighting the car’s muscular curves and aggressive stance. The car features active side exhaust pipes, period-style Halibrand replica rims, and a removable soft top roof with solid sliding side windows framed in steel, allowing for versatility in both open-air and weather-protected driving. A three-point roll bar, securely mounted to the chassis, adds both safety and competition-inspired styling.

INTERIOR:

The cockpit is trimmed in beige leather across the seats, dashboard, and door panels, delivering a refined contrast to the car’s race-ready mechanicals. Instrumentation is handled by VDO Heritage Gold gauges set within a polished wood surround, complemented by a matching Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel, and polished wood finishes to the gearstick and handbrake. The layout is driver-focused, with all controls positioned for easy access, and the extended chassis providing additional legroom and width for bigger drivers.
