SUMMARY:
The 1932 Ford Roadster remains one of the most iconic hot rods ever created, and this Dearborn Deuce all-steel example by Johnny Z's Hot Rod & Custom Shop captures everything enthusiasts admire about the legendary Deuce while incorporating high-quality modern engineering and outstanding attention to detail. Built to an exceptionally high show-and-drive standard, the car combines timeless styling with serious performance and practicality.
Finished in beautiful award winning candy wine paintwork, the Roadster possesses a stunning visual presence. The all-steel Dearborn Deuce body is widely regarded as one of the finest reproduction bodies available and sits atop a professionally constructed custom chassis built in Melbourne. A custom rear lower back panel, relocated fuel cell and body-coloured undercarriage highlight the meticulous attention paid to every aspect of the build.
The exterior styling successfully blends traditional hot rod design with subtle modern enhancements. A steel 1932 grille shell with Vintique insert, large original-style headlamps incorporating indicators and shaved doors maintain the Roadster's classic appearance, while electric windows and concealed power door releases improve everyday usability. The folding soft top tucks neatly into the body, preserving the car's clean profile.
Under the bonnet sits a built Chevrolet Performance 350 cubic-inch crate engine topped with a polished Weiand 6-71 supercharger and twin 600 Holley carburettors. Coupled to a 700R4 four-speed automatic overdrive transmission and Ford 9-inch rear end with 4.11 gears, the combination delivers effortless power and the unmistakable supercharged V8 character expected from a quality street rod. Stainless Edelbrock Turbo Flow mufflers and a custom exhaust system complete the package with an unmistakable soundtrack.
The chassis specification is equally impressive. A Super Bell drop axle, Unisteer rack and pinion steering, billet aluminium four-link rear suspension and Viking adjustable coilovers provide excellent road manners, while front disc brakes with polished So-Cal style finned drum covers combine traditional styling with modern braking performance. Sitting on Cast Finish American Racing Radar wheel set with Excelsior fronts and big BF Goodrich radials at the back for the perfect stance.
Inside, the cabin has been beautifully executed in Grey Ghost vegan leather upholstery centred around a Glide bench seat. A Banjo steering wheel, Lokar Swan shifter, custom dash and Autometer gauge package, cleverly fabricated lower dash extension with copper plate trimmings that create an uncluttered and elegant interior. The boot area is also trimmed in matching Grey Gost Leather with visually stunning copper plate trimming. Modern conveniences including electric windows, heater, 2 speed wipers, retractable seatbelts and a collapsible Flaming River steering column enhance comfort and safety without detracting from the Roadster's timeless appeal.
Importantly, this is not simply a showpiece. Fully engineered and road registered in its current configuration, the Roadster has earned major awards at the Victorian Hot Rod Show, Adelaide Expo, Summernats, Showcars Melbourne and MotorEx, along with multiple paint awards recognising the exceptional quality of the build and finish.
On the road, the supercharged Chevrolet V8, well-developed suspension package and carefully considered engineering combine to create a highly capable and immensely enjoyable street rod. Equally at home cruising, attending major events or competing on the show circuit, it offers the ideal blend of performance, reliability and presence.
Having travelled less than 800 kilometres since completion, this exceptional Roadster is offered with its first mechanical service to be carried out by Johnny Z's Hot Rod & Custom Shop following the auction, included at no additional cost for any successful Victorian purchaser.
Beautifully built, professionally engineered and boasting an enviable show history, this Dearborn Deuce all-steel 1932 Ford Roadster represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire one of Australia's finest contemporary street rods, built to a standard that is becoming increasingly difficult to replicate today.
