1970 FORD FAIRMONT XW V8

SOLD: $80,250 ( 100% to Vendor ) + Buyer's Premium 8.8%

MODEL OVERVIEW:

The Ford Fairmont XW, produced between 1969 and 1970, represented the top-tier luxury offering in Ford Australia’s XW Falcon range, blending contemporary styling with a strong emphasis on comfort, refinement, and equipment. Inside, it featured a higher level of standard appointments including upgraded seat trim, deep-pile carpeting, timber-style dash appliqué, full instrumentation, padded interior surfaces, and improved sound insulation. Mechanical offerings ranged from the smooth 250-cubic-inch inline six through to optional V8 power. The XW Fairmont set the template for the Fairmont nameplate as Ford Australia’s bridge between mainstream Falcon practicality and prestige-oriented motoring.

AUCTION CAR:

A 1970 Ford XW Fairmont Sedan — a genuine factory Y-code V8 example, presented in restored condition and retaining its original, matching-numbers engine. Finished in Silver Fox with Black Fairmont trim, it combines understated luxury with period V8 performance. A full restoration was completed approximately eight years ago, with use since largely limited to shows and careful enjoyment.

DRIVE - LINE:

Powered by the desirable 302ci Windsor V8, this Fairmont retains its matching-numbers engine, fully rebuilt as part of the restoration. The C4 automatic transmission was also rebuilt, along with the suspension and brakes, resulting in a well-sorted, turn-key package. The Y-code Windsor is well regarded for its smooth power delivery, reliability, and strong street manners, making it well suited to both touring and relaxed cruising. Mild, tasteful enhancements — including 12-slot wheels and a twin exhaust system — improve drivability and sound while remaining sympathetic to the car’s original character.

EXTERIOR:

The body underwent a full bare-metal restoration, providing a solid and correctly prepared foundation. Finished in Silver Fox, the paintwork presents extremely well, with clean lines, consistent panel gaps, and a crisp overall appearance that reflects the quality of the work undertaken. Bumpers and exterior trim present very well.

INTERIOR:

Restored as part of the build, the interior is trimmed in Black vinyl and presents cleanly throughout, with only minor wear visible to the door cards. The cabin reflects the Fairmont’s upmarket positioning within the XW range, enhanced by the inclusion of a GT console, creating a comfortable and well-finished environment that complements the exterior presentation.

SUMMARY:

A genuine 1970 Ford XW Fairmont Y-Code V8 offering matching numbers, a quality restoration, and restrained upgrades for improved usability. Featuring a rebuilt factory 302 Windsor, full bare-metal body restoration, and an authentic colour and trim combination, this is a very well-presented Fairmont V8 that will appeal to collectors and enthusiasts alike.

A neat and honest example of refined Australian V8 motoring.
