AUCTION CAR
This 1970 Ford Falcon XW GT HO Phase 2 Tribute is a purpose-built performance car that captures the look, stance, and attitude of Ford Australia’s legendary GT racers, while benefiting from carefully considered mechanical upgrades throughout. Finished in striking Track Red, this XW presents as an aggressive, well-sorted GT-style build that delivers genuine performance to match its visual impact.
Ford Australia’s Managing Director — and widely regarded “father of the Falcon GT” — Bill Bourke modified his own XW GT with performance enhancements and a shaker-style bonnet scoop, highlighting that period GTs were often modified beyond strict factory specification, even when new. This is just a tribute.
DRIVE-LINE
At the heart of this XW sits a very strong 351ci Cleveland V8, fitted with CHI 3V alloy cylinder heads and a high-rise intake manifold, delivering substantial power with strong mid- to top-end performance. Fuel delivery has been upgraded with a Holley Blue electric fuel pump and filter, complemented by enlarged fuel lines and a tailshaft safety loop for added security under hard use.
The engine is backed by a Toploader four-speed manual gearbox, transmitting power through a Ford 9-inch limited-slip differential, creating a robust and proven driveline package well suited to spirited road use or occasional track work. Suspension and mechanical components have been selected with performance in mind, featuring heavy-duty items throughout to suit an enthusiastic driver.
EXTERIOR
The exterior is presented in stunning Track Red, with excellent gloss and delivering unmistakable GT-inspired presence. The stance is well judged, aided by sorted suspension and KMAC adjusters, while classic five-slot wheels complete the period-correct performance look. Completing the visual package is a shaker bonnet scoop standing proudly through the bonnet, reinforcing both the car’s intent and its motorsport-inspired character. All trim, light lenses, bumpers and hardware are presented in excellent condition. The paintwork shows minor signs of bubbling in the lower doors upon close up inspection. This car delivers a big visual punch expected of a GT inspired XW, while remaining a highly usable performance driver.
INTERIOR
Inside, the car features a full GT-specification interior presented in very good condition, maintaining the correct GT appearance throughout. The only departure from factory presentation is the fitment of Autometer speedometer and tachometer with integrated shift light, subtly reinforcing the car’s performance focus while remaining sympathetic to the overall period style.
SUMMARY
A serious performance build with the looks to match, this XW GT HO Phase 2 Tribute delivers the raw presence, mechanical strength, and driving engagement that made the originals legendary. With a powerful Cleveland V8, Toploader four-speed, 9-inch limited-slip differential, four-wheel disc brakes, and well-chosen performance upgrades, this is a car built to be driven and enjoyed.
