MODEL OVERVIEW:

The 1958 Ford Customline “Star Model” marked the final chapter of the Australian-built Customlines, produced at Ford’s assembly plant in Geelong, Victoria. Based on the North American 1955 Ford platform but uniquely styled and built for local conditions, the Star Model featured revised front sheet metal with a new grille design, side spear mouldings, and prominent “Customline” badging. It retained the robust body-on-frame construction, designed to handle Australia’s harsh rural roads. The name “Star Model” referred to the fantastic grille design that was also used by the 1955 Meteor in Canada.

This Customline is powered by a responsive 302 cubic-inch Windsor V8, with extractors and twin system exhaust delivering smooth performance and a great sound. It’s paired with a Ford C4 automatic transmission for seamless shifts and relaxed cruising, whether around town or on the open road. The engine runs a straight Impco Gas system, cleverly integrated and discreetly hidden within the engine bay to maintain a clean, ‘none the wiser’ presentation.

To support the upgraded powertrain, the car features a robust Ford Mustang 8 ¾-inch differential, power-assisted front disc brakes, and power steering—significantly improving drivability, braking confidence, and comfort over the original factory specification. All steering and suspension components were replaced during the restoration, resulting in precise road manners and a supple, compliant ride. Power is put to the road through a set of genuine Cragar wheels wrapped in classic whitewall tyres, perfectly blending performance with nostalgic visual appeal.

A modern air-conditioning system ensures year-round cabin comfort, while electric wipers replace the original vacuum setup for reliable all-weather operation. The exterior of this Customline has benefited from a complete restoration 14 years ago, including a high-quality repaint in eye-catching Monte Carlo Red over Snow White. The finish is deep and lustrous, highlighting the car’s sweeping lines, modest tailfins and distinctive Australian only Star grille.

All chrome trim, brightwork, grille components and bumpers have been fully renewed, presenting in outstanding, sparkling condition. All rubbers and seals were replaced giving the body a fresh well fitted solid feel.

INTERIOR:

The cabin of this Customline has been the subject of a complete and professional interior refurbishment, carried out to an exceptional standard. A new headlining has been installed, along with plush thick-pile carpets that provide a luxurious underfoot feel while enhancing sound insulation. A modern Sound system with bluetooth has been cleverly intergrated for endless quality tunes. Other clever items like a Sat. Nav. Maps screen are wired into this car that can be tucked away when not in use.
