1964 Chevrolet Corvette

Model Overview:

The second-generation Corvette, known as the C2, made its debut in 1963 with the captivating name ‘Sting Ray’, reflecting its menacing sleek profile. The C2 Corvette Sting Ray inherited its aerodynamic design from Bill Mitchell’s Racing Concepts and underwent refinement by Larry Shinoda, resulting in a serious sports car with a shorter wheelbase and independent rear suspension developed by Chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov.

The first Corvette developed with advanced wind-tunnel technology, the C2 Sting Ray boasted nearly double the steel support of its predecessor, compensated by thinner fiberglass panels that paradoxically enhanced rigidity while reducing weight. Emphasizing its racing pedigree, the Sting Ray featured oversized speedometer and tachometer dials on the dashboard, along with improved weight distribution, lighter steering, and enhanced maneuverability.

In 1964, the Sting Ray underwent further upgrades, both structurally and aesthetically. Notably, the iconic split rear window was replaced with a single wrap-around glass, simulated air intakes on the hood were removed for a cleaner appearance. The insignia was redesigned with the memorable concentric circles and crossed flags. The suspension received enhancements, and the options for the 327 V8 engine included an EFI boost to produce an additional 15 horsepower, totaling 375 if ticked.

The C2 Sting Ray remained immensely popular, staying in production for five years until it was succeeded by the third generation C3 in 1968. Among all the Corvettes, the 1964 Sting Ray proved to be a resounding success, praised by both motoring media and enthusiasts alike, with sales exceeding 22,000 units.

Vehicle:

This stunning C2 Corvette is a Genuine Tuxedo Black (900AA Code) vehicle with Silver (491AA Code) Interior. This is very rare (1 of 6) and a highly desirable factory combination for the collector. Together with it’s 327 V8, 4 Speed Manual gearbox, Air-Conditioning, 4 wheel disc brakes and Knock-Off Wheels… this particular car is a stand out.

Beautifully presented and drives well, this Tuxedo over Silver ’64 is simply impressive.

Mechanical:

Featuring the (Block Code 3782870) Chevrolet 327 V8 (Casting Date code – H293 – August 29th 1963) engine in standard specification, mated to its 4 Speed manual Gearbox driving power through to the standard Differential. Air Conditioning is fitted as with Four Wheel Disc Brakes for effortless long distance cruising if required. All other items are standard, in very well serviced condition and ready to drive home.

Body:

Presented beautifully, this cars paintwork was completely redone in correct 900AA Tuxedo Black after importation into Australia in 2012. Hardly a blemish to be found if any.

Interior:

Presented beautifully, this cars Interior in it’s rare factory Silver Color is in remarkable condition with dash, instruments, seating, roof lining and door cards all close to unmarked condition.

Summary:

This car is believed to have been completely restored in the USA around 2008 and featured in Corvette Fever Magazine for its color rarity. It is believed that ONLY SIX Corvettes in this color combination were created by Chevrolet in the St Louis factory.

History & Maintenance:

Very well looked after by its current Collector Owner. Import approval paperwork supplied and is currently Club Registered in Victoria. (Non-Transferable)

Bidding:

Register to Bid.
If Reserve Price is Met, a yellow banner will say “Reserve Met”.
Bidding is in $250 Increments. Our system will extend the Auction by 2 Minutes if a bid is placed within 2 minutes of Auction End.
We use an Autobid system. Place your highest bid & Autobid will increase your bid by $250 increments up to your highest bid amount, ONLY if another bidder is competing with you & bids up to that amount. In the case of a tie bid, precedence is given to the earliest bid. If the Reserve Price is not met, the highest bidder has first right to negotiate purchase.
