The Ford Falcon Hardtop, introduced with the XA in 1972 and produced through the XB and XC series, was Ford Australia’s most dramatic two-door coupe. On offer is a mean looking 1974 Ford XB Fairmont Hardtop, a factory V8 coupe that has been treated to a previous full restoration and enhanced with tough mechanical upgrades. Originally finished in Mulberry Metallic with Parchment trim, this Hardtop now presents in a custom metallic silver with orange GS side stripes, giving it a slick street presence. It carries all the desirable GS features including the vented bonnet, spotlight grille and full instrumentation. Known by enthusiasts as the “Silver Fox,” this example was most recently won by the vendor through a Classics for a Cause raffle and is now offered for you to own.

DRIVE-LINE:

Powered by a rebuilt 351 Cleveland V8 fitted with a lumpy camshaft and four-barrel Holley Carb, paired to a rebuilt C10 three-speed automatic transmission with a legendary 9” LSD 3.00 ratio that delivers strong muscle car performance as expected. The suspension has been upgraded with lowered springs, while braking is upgraded by a four-wheel power-assisted disc brake system. The car also benefits from power steering, a large alloy radiator, 4 into 1 headers and a dual exhaust with Hooker mufflers, ensuring the soundtrack matches the look.

EXTERIOR:

The body has been professionally refinished in metallic silver, complemented by orange GS side stripes and GS-specific styling cues. Chrome, brightwork and external trim were refurbished or replaced during the restoration, contributing to a quality finish. Sitting low over a set of 15-inch Bathurst Globe-style wheels, measuring 15×8” front and 15×10” rear, and wrapped in big BF Goodrich 295 tyres filling out the guards perfectly, this car has an aggressive stance and muscular appearance.

INTERIOR:

Inside, the car features a fully refurbished cabin trimmed in all black, replacing the original Parchment. Highlights include replaced seats, door cards, centre console, headlining, GS rally dash and GS steering wheel, all restored to a high standard. Safety is enhanced with modern retractable lap-sash seatbelts. A Kenwood stereo with Bluetooth capability has been discreetly fitted for modern convenience, while the boot is neatly lined with black carpet, showing the attention to detail that carried through the restoration.
