The 1974 Torana SLR5000 boasted a factory-tuned 240hp 5-liter V8 engine, a Heavy Duty M21 4-Speed Gearbox, Power-assisted 254mm Front Disc Brakes, Lowered Higher Rate Springs with matched Shocks, Rear Stabilizer Bar, Limited Slip Differential, Dual Exhausts, SLR Interior featuring Race-style bucket seats, steering wheel, door cards, Full Instrumentation with Tacho and SLR badging. Its exterior left no doubt about its intent with Body stripes & Black outs, Front & Rear spoilers, prominent SL/R 5000 decals on the front quarter & rear spoiler, ensuring its presence was known to all. The SLR5000 package laid the foundation for the formidable L34 homologation specials, dominating touring car racing in the mid-1970s with drivers like Peter Brock and Colin Bond securing memorable back-to-back wins at Bathurst in 1975-1976. Genuine SLR 5000s with original matching numbers are now rare, making them highly sought-after iconic collector’s items.

Auction Vehicle:

This Genuine LH SLR5000 is a rare find with its original August 1974 cast / HT Code Engine for the discerning collector. Delivered new to Maitland Holden in South Australia in 1974, it was a special order for the Dealer Principal of the time, as LH SLR5000s were not available to all Holden dealerships. Believed to have lived in South Australia for the majority of it life, this car was found parked in a country South Australian garage & underwent a full nut-and-bolt restoration 16 years ago. At this time of restoration, it was fitted with A9X Flared Guards, Bonnet Scoop, Bathurst Drop Tank & A9X Paintwork. It is believed to have driven less than 8,000 kilometers since. Acquired by the current owner 12 years ago, it has been very well cared for & cherished in a purpose-built garage in rural Victoria. This car is also supplied with a GMH Verification letter.

Mechanical:

With a matching (1H4) Cast Code – SLR5000 only (HT) Engine number – L31 block, this original engine has been upgraded with L34 Heads, Hydraulic Rockers & Lifters, Holley 780 Carburetor, PM Engines Stripmaster Manifold, Crane Cams Fireball HI-6 Ignition & coil, Twin point Distributor, Gilmer Belt Drive, Thermo Fan & Extractors. The Clutch system is upgraded to Hydraulic & sends power through the M21 Four Speed Gearbox to the LSD with Fine Spline HD axles. Suspension & Braking is set-up as per factory settings. A Bathurst Style Fuel Drop Tank rounds out the mechanical package. It is told that the owner who restored this car, had the mechanicals built to enter ‘Targa Tasmania’ style rallies in ‘standard’ class, by keeping its original engine block. This car was never entered in any events as the owners health declined.

Interior:

The entire SLR interior is presented in Stunning condition. Originally fitted with 19X interior (Black with Chamios Cloth ) this is now fitted with the classic 19V Black with Ash Vinyl SL/R seats & matching Door cards.  All SLR Dash, instrumentation, steering wheel, carpets, seatbelts & headlining are all in fantastic condition, ready for any show.

Exterior:

Presented in its Original Mandarin Red (15953) color, this Torana’s body is dead straight & has been upgraded to A9X styling – Flares, Hood Scoop, LX Paint Blackouts & Drop Tank. Professionally painted over a decade ago & sparingly driven since, the majority of the paintwork looks brand new. The high quality paintwork shines with very little marks & only very minor corrosion evident below the rear window. All door seals in perfect condition. Cheviot Hotwire Wheels & Yokohama 352 Tyres round out this magnificent package along with the Stainless Steel drop tank.
