The XA GT – A New Era of Australian Muscle

When Ford introduced the XA GT in September 1972, it marked a dramatic shift in Australian muscle car design. As the first Falcon completely designed and built in Australia, the XA model moved away from its American-inspired predecessors, embracing a smoother, more modern shape with a distinctive long-nose and fastback-style rear.

Underneath the aggressive new styling, the XA GT was a true performance machine. Equipped with Ford’s legendary 351 Cleveland V8 4V, the GT delivered 300 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission for a thrilling driving experience.

Ford also reinforced the XA’s body for improved rigidity, and introduced wider track dimensions, enhancing handling over previous models.

The XA GT was an instant icon on Australian roads and racetracks, setting the foundation for Ford’s success in the hard-fought era of V8 muscle and Touring Car dominance.
