1972 VALIANT CHARGER VH E37 / RT TRIBUTE

SOLD: $75,500 ( 100% to Vendor ) + Buyer's Premium 8.8%

MODEL OVERVIEW:

The Valiant Charger VH, introduced in 1971 by Chrysler Australia, was a bold and uniquely Australian take on the performance coupe, blending compact dimensions with muscular styling and a wide-ranging mechanical portfolio that appealed to both everyday drivers and hardcore enthusiasts. Based on the VH Valiant platform but shortened and sharpened visually, the Charger lineup spanned from modest six-cylinder road cars through to some of the most formidable local performance machines of the era. At the top sat the legendary E-series performance variants, beginning with the E37 Six Pack, powered by the 265ci Hemi Six with triple Weber carburettors, followed by the more aggressive E38, culminating in the E49 and E55. Alongside and combined with these were the Charger R/T models, offering sporty suspension, distinctive styling and strong performance without the full E-series specification, while trim levels such as XL, 770 and SE defined varying levels of interior finish and equipment across the range.

AUCTION CAR:

This 1972 Valiant Charger is presented as an E37 / R/T Tribute, built around a genuine E37 Six Pack engine sourced from an original E37 770 donor vehicle. The donor cars mechanical components transferred into this straight, rust-free, freshly painted Charger shell offered today. The result is a well-executed tribute that combines many authentic E37 ‘Six Pack’ mechanicals with strong Hemi Orange visual presence and correct period character.

DRIVE - LINE:

At the heart of the car is the original 265ci Hemi Six E37 Six Pack engine, retaining its factory triple Weber carburettors along with the correct rocker cover, throttle linkages, and both flat and domed air cleaner assemblies (included). The engine has been fully balanced and thoughtfully upgraded with fully floating rods, a large harmonic balancer, roller rockers, an electronic distributor (original distributor supplied), an electric fuel pump, and a thermostatic electric cooling fan.

Power is delivered through a three-speed manual gearbox fitted with a twin-plate clutch, featuring ‘Bathurst’ markings that are noted but unverified. Drive is sent to a reconditioned 3.24:1 limited-slip differential. Suspension and braking are stated to remain largely true to E37 specification, incorporating E37 torsion bars and sway bar, reconditioned Girlock front disc brakes, and a reconditioned master cylinder. A twin exhaust system with extractors is fitted, consistent with E37 specification and sound.

EXTERIOR:

The body presents exceptionally well, described as straight and rust-free, and has recently undergone a glass-out respray in Hemi Orange. Finished with the correct R/T scoop and full R/T visual treatment, the Charger delivers a striking, high-impact presentation that perfectly suits its aggressive lines. The engine bay retains older, previous paintwork. The car sits on W35 wheels and retains period-correct details including sealed-beam headlights and auxiliary driving lights.

INTERIOR:

Inside, the cabin is trimmed to 770-style specification and features the optional sports tacho dashboard, reinforcing its performance intent. Presentation is honest and usable, with noted dash pad cracking, along with the headlining and select minor trim items requiring attention should the next owner wish to bring the interior to the same level as the exterior.

SUMMARY:

A fantastic looking E37 / R/T Tribute built around genuine E37 Six Pack mechanicals, presented in the right colour, with the right stance and the right attitude. Offering authentic drivetrain components and standout visual appeal, this Charger represents a compelling opportunity for enthusiasts seeking the E37 experience without the price point of an original matching-numbers example.
