The Holden Commodore VK Police cars represent one of the most recognisable Australian law-enforcement vehicles of the mid-1980s. Introduced in 1984, the VK was widely adopted by state police forces across Australia, most notably in Victoria and New South Wales, where it became synonymous with highway patrol and high-speed enforcement. Police Pursuit spec VKs were fitted with the locally developed Holden 5.0 and updated 4.9 litre V8's, offering strong output and reliability, paired with heavy-duty driveline components, upgraded suspension, larger brakes and reinforced cooling systems to withstand sustained high-speed operation. Externally, pursuit VKs were usually finished in force-specific colours, including unique Police only paint codes, while interiors were trimmed sparsely along with fine increment speedometers, prioritising functionality over comfort. Today, genuine VK V8 Police specials are increasingly sought after by collectors.
