MODEL OVERVIEW:
The Ford Falcon XY Panelvan, produced between 1970 and 1972 with just 4,955 examples built. Built on the same platform as the celebrated XY sedans and utilities, the panel van offered a large, flat cargo bay, strong suspension and durability that made it a favourite among businesses, surf culture and custom-van enthusiasts alike. While most were delivered as basic workhorses, the XY Panel Van could be optioned with everything from the humble 200 and 250ci sixes to the 302 or 351ci V8s, and today surviving examples are highly sought after due to their rarity, versatility and close association with the golden era of Australian Ford muscle.

This 1972 Ford XY Falcon Panelvan presents as a very clean, straight and dry example of Ford’s iconic commercial workhorse, now tastefully restored into a V8 GS-styled cruiser. Finished in bold Surfer Orange duco and featuring a complete Saddle GS interior, the van has fantastic presence and a cohesive factory-style aesthetic. Hard to find in this condition, genuine windowless XY Panelvans rarely come to market with this level of body quality.
Originally delivered new as a special-order EY357 fleet colour vehicle, this van was 1 of just 2 supplied to a Canberra TV station, built as a 250ci six-cylinder manual. It now benefits from a quality transformation, upgraded with a 302 Cleveland V8 paired to a C4 automatic transmission, giving it the effortless drivability and a V8 exhaust note enthusiasts expect.
DRIVE - LINE:
Powered by a mild 302 Cleveland V8 and paired with a smooth C4 automatic, the driveline suits the van perfectly for relaxed cruising. All suspension and braking hardware are shown to be in good condition, along with a front sway bar fitted. EXTERIOR:
The Surfer Orange finish presents well, offering a clean shine across straight, tidy panels. The van’s windowless body and floor pans are in excellent condition — dry, honest and free from the corrosion so common in commercial Falcons. GS-style touches include GS driving lights, hub caps, stripes, period-correct detailing and a stance consistent with Ford’s factory sports appearance packages. Overall presentation is very appealing.
INTERIOR:
Inside, the van features a beautifully executed Saddle GS interior, including GS-style dashboard, instruments, seats, console, door cards, trim and detailing that elevate the cabin far beyond typical commercial-spec Falcons. The dashboard, controls and cabin fittings all present very cleanly, with a well-finished cargo area featuring fitted sound insulation and carpeting, making the rear space tidy, quiet and far more practical for cruising or display. A more modern stereo is fitted with speakers all round. The rear section is clean and never knocked around as work vans did. A well finished interior in excellent condition.
